Matt Hermano

About

Matt Hermano performing live

I am a Vancouver-based singer-songwriter writing intimate songs about longing, quiet courage, and the small moments that stay with us.

Most nights you can find me in cafes and open mics around the city, refining songs in front of rooms that reward attention and honesty.

My sets are designed to feel conversational: minimal production, lyrical focus, and a strong connection with the audience.

My Music Journey

Matt Hermano on stage under warm lights

My music journey started at the age of 13 when my dad gifted me my very first guitar. Starting off I was very interested in flamenco/ Latin music. Over time I would get into other genre and develop a love and respect for all music types. By the age of 16 I started to compose and write songs. My first ever performance was for a multi-cultural day in high school. From there, it sparked the fire of wanting to perform in front of people. From the ages of 18 - 21 I would enter in battle of the bands and Christian song writing competitions. At 22 I took vocal lessons, learning how to sing properly. At the age of 24 I had given up music and my dreams for the person I loved, thinking it was the right thing to do. By the age of 28 the relationship ended which then I returned back to music as therapy. By 29 I represented Canada in a World Competition of Performing Arts in the categories of songwriting, pop and R&B, winning 3 silvers for Canada. After the competition I didn't pursue music as a career because I felt as if I was not good enough and also had trauma from the previous relationship about my dreams of becoming a singer songwriter and performer. Fast forward to 36. I found a relationship where my partner pushes me to perform, write songs, and pursue the dream of becoming a full time songwriter and performer!
